We love Winnie the Pooh,
He is sweet and loves honey too,
We also love his friends like Kanga and Roo,
We hope to see you someday too,
We find Tigger very sweet,
Honey is what Pooh likes to eat,
So when we've got a jar too spare,
We always give it to that silly old bear,
Pooh is the one we like to see,
In our books and on T.V,
We made a club called "Tigger and Friends",
With bits and bobs and odds and ends!
This love for a stuffed bear and interest in honey started a strange chain of events that has brought us to today. We would stop in once or twice a year to buy a jar honey from an old bee keeper on the way to the cottage. He kept his hives right beside the driveway, so as you got out of the car you were not more than 25 feet from the bees!
On one visit, the old bee keeper was not at is home. Instead his nephew greeted us as we drove in beside the hives.
Where is the old man today I asked
I am sad to have to tell you he had an accident and has been killed. Replied the
the nephew
We are so sad to hear such shocking news
No, No, he had a wonderful life. He died happy and
with no regrets. But what can I do for you today?
Do you have any of is wonderful honey left to sell?
No. It has all been sold.
He kept a lot of bees here. Do you have any of them around still.
No. It they have all been sold too.
He made is own hives I think. Any of those left.
Yes! We have a whole shed full of them for sale!
I came back to the van carrying not a small jar of honey but a full, complete bee hive with Bottom Board, Frames and Top Cover! Just ADD BEEs!
That was in the summer of 2001 and although Emily's love of Winnie the Pooh may have subsided a bit over time, our interest in bees and bee keeping has continued to grow.
